Trees and Papers
2/13/09A photograph of a stack of colored papers, broken up by a streak of yellow. The final layer is a screen-print of a photograph of trees. I love the contrast of the stark print of nature over the colorful print of man-made objects, and the irony that those papers originated as the trees.

I just found your blog. What a lovely Valentine's gift. This piece is very interesting, not only because of an energetic use of art elements and principles, but also but also because it is a reminder of where we get our paper and how much we misuse this resource. My love of trees goes back to my formative years. I had a free rein to prowl the woods near our house and have never forgotten the lessons learned there. I look forward to seeing more of your work.
Karen, don't tell me you do screen printing, too. You are one talented person. Love this, love the tree. I have some photos of trees I should use more often. . . maybe I'll just have to learn some real printing techniques.

Thanks, everyone! I have taken a lot of winter tree pictures this year, and I am using them to experiment. Eventually, I think there will be a series about trees, and maybe the lake where I walk and take most of the photographs.
