Experimenting

There is value in creating small works of art, especially as tests for larger works of art. It is a way to test out the palette, the layout and design, and the techniques --- without committing on a huge scale. These two pieces are such an experiment. Which one do you think is more successful and why?

I like the first. It is more organic in look of the arrangement whereas in the second one the sections are very specifically divided and the white bit with horizontal lines rather steals the show, keeping your eye from looking at the rest.
