Obviously

This morning's collage --- a reaction to yet another news story where someone bought a product, used it for a purpose other than what it was intended, then sued and won a huge settlement from the manufacturer for the damages they suffered. Some things are obvious if we exercise a little common sense.

Patience

Gardening teaches you patience. There is no instant gratification --- unless you buy a blooming plant and plunk it in the garden, which doesn't happen at our house. I start with seeds, or possibly small seedling plants, and spend the spring and summer nurturing them and coaxing them into blooming and bearing fruit. Patience is a hard lesson to remember, but my gardens remind me.

Quilting Arts Magazine

This is the newest issue of Quilting Arts magazine --- their "Go Green" issue. My piece, "Green Construction", is featured on the Table of Contents and also on pages 60-61. This piece was created for the "It's Good to be Green" exhibition, and out of 47 pieces in the exhibition, my work was one of three chosen to be featured in this issue. Yes, I'm pretty pleased!

P.S. I have tried several times to upload a photo of "Green Construction", and blogger is being quite contrary and only wants to upload it in a super tiny size.

Anyone know its name?

Zeke and I walk in our neighborhood park several times a day, and yesterday a glorious transformation had taken place. I have had my eye on these shrubs for a couple of weeks now. I love their little seed clusters! For days the seeds have been green, and overnight they have changed to this fiery red. I love them!

I have no idea what type of plant this is --- can anyone help? They look like miniature maple seeds, but the leaves don't look like a maple, and these are shrubs, not trees. I would love to know the name of this bush, so leave me a comment if you know (or even if you have a guess that I could investigate).

A New Collage

Where do the days of summer go? It seems like I am busy all day every day, but I don't seem to have much new art to show for it. The big projects that I am working on can't be shown yet, and most of the little projects are out the door before I get a chance to post them on here. Today I finished the collage above though, and I did remember to post a photo here for all of you to see. This collage combines cloth, paper, paint and ink.

Rewards of a Good Deed

I am house-sitting for a neighbor, and she has as many gardens as I do. Just watering the gardens at both houses takes most of the morning. But, there are perks......I have been enjoying an afternoon dip in her pool every day, and I have been thoroughly loving the leaf lettuce from her garden in my salad every evening.

Serendipity

This morning I discovered this young robin on our deck rail, chirping away. I got out my camera and took this photograph.

As I focused in for a second photograph, look who showed up to be in the photo. The adult robin was only there for a brief instant --- serendipity at its best!

Happy Birthday, Zeke!

Zeke is officially one year old today, and we are so amazed by all the laughter and love that he brings to our lives. How did we ever live without him?!?!

Above is Zeke with his birthday "pupcake" from the local dog bakery, and below are the action shots as he celebrates, complete with a tongue shot!
