Cut-Up #5

For this experiment I used two very different collages and went back to using strips instead of squares. One collage was very busy, and the other collage was very minimalist. When combined, I think I achieved a much better work of art!

Cut-Up #4

Today's cut-up uses the same techniques as yesterday, but with two collages. I like the interest created by using the different colored collages. Each day I am learning what works, and what doesn't.

Cut-Up #3

Today I took a single collage and cut it into squares, then shuffled the squares. I took the off-cuts and layered them on top for added texture and interest. I love the way these experiments are progressing!

Cut Up #2

This time I combined slices from two different, yet similar, collages. I like the movement created by the sliced blue circles, and the overall glow created by having hints of the lime green in different areas. I'm having fun, and I still have more ideas on how to progress with this experimentation!

Recycling

Every now and then I look back at work that didn't sell and try to recycle it and see if I can make it better. I had a collage left from the Evergreen pop-up that didn't sell, and yesterday I decided to start experimenting with it.

The first thing I did was add some black painted stripes to the surface. Still not enough, so I added the blue circles around the number five. Better, but still nothing really interesting. I was about to give up on it, when I got the idea to cut it into slices.

Then I shuffled the slices. Now I am very happy with it! What do you think?

A New Foster

This is Tux, a little 4 pound maltese/shih tzu puppy. He is only 5 months old and was surrendered by his owners due to allergies. He is an almost perfect puppy --- very friendly and playful, sleeps through the night, and goes potty on the pad every time. I knew we would not be fostering him for long!

Tux arrived on Sunday evening, and tonight he was adopted! He has a great forever home with a yorkie sister and lots of extended family to play with him.

Today, Tuesday, February 12
10 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and
Wednesday, February 13
10 a.m. - 2:00 p.m

From Virginia Spiegel (founder of Fiberart For A Cause):

Fiberart For A Cause has raised over $220,000 for the American Cancer Society solely through the generosity of fiber artists and patrons.  We're hoping to add $8000 to that total in just eight hours with "A Year of Art" opening today at 10 a.m. Central:

http://www.virginiaspiegel.com/AYearofArt2013.html

It's amazing that artists of the stature of Pamela Allen, Pokey Bolton, Linda Colsh, Jane Davila, Vivika DeNegre, Jane Dunnewold, Jamie Fingal, Karen Stiehl Osborn, Yvonne Porcella, and Laura Wasilowski donate their artwork freely to the cause.

Add to that the 27 artists and fiber businesses that have donated to our drawing, and I think we can all celebrate to power of women to make a difference in a very important way.

Of course, no event is successful without YOU.  I hope you will join us today (Tuesday, February 12) and tomorrow (February 13) from 10 a.m - 2 p.m.

Your support is sincerely appreciated!

Paint Day

Today I am spending some time at the art center, painting and mono printing. I have some new substrates to experiment with, and I am excited to see how well they work! There should be 2 or 3 other artists there as well, so it should be a day filled with paint and laughter. I am looking forward to it!

Friday Morning Collage

Simple and cheerful --- a perfect way to end the week! This collage is all painted papers, although it includes many different techniques.

Thursday Morning Collage

This collage is bits of a magazine cover, bits of painted paper, and scraps of painted fabric --- mostly leftovers from other projects that happened to be on my work table. I love the repeat of the white lettering!

Tuesday Morning Collage

I save those annoying inserts in magazines, and then I run them through my printer to print one of my photographs on them. That was the inspiration for this morning's collage. Then it seemed to need some color, and the stripes were serendipity.

Art, Interview, and a Good Cause

Today the artwork I created for A Year of Art is featured on Virginia Spiegel's blog, along with an interview (and Virginia's comments) about the art and my inspiration. Please stop by and check it out!

Simple Treasures

I don't know why, but I love to photograph padlocks. This is actually a shiny new padlock on our shed,  and it didn't have much character. So, I used the "equalize" adjustment in Photoshop, and that was just what it needed.

Friday's Morning Collage

This is the final morning collage of the week. Very simple, yet I like the colors and the flow of this one. It's a little "softer" than my normal work, but once again, I don't put a lot of time or thought into these. I just pull out elements and start collaging.
