Lexi

Yes, we have a new foster! Lexi was hit by a car and left for dead. A good samaritan found her in the ditch, but he couldn't keep her. As soon as I heard her story, I knew I wanted to help. She was in SW Missouri, but thanks to the internet and some people I have never met, Lexi was transported to Nebraska, to me. 

Yesterday she went to the vet, and x-rays were taken. Her pelvis is fractured in two places, and her tail is broken. For now, she is on rest and confinement (in a child's Pack & Play). Through all her pain, she is a sweetheart that gives me kisses every time I am around her. I feel sorry about all that she has been through, but I think she knows that she is safe now, and that we love her.

Lexi is a one year old yorkie mix --- available for adoption (once she heals) from Hands, Hearts & Paws, Inc.

Recycle, Repurpose

On a recent shopping trip I found 3 relish trays, and immediately I could see how perfect they were for feeding stations for puppies. The rescue still has several litters of puppies, and another litter on the way any day now. So, I bought all 3 of them. Here are two litters of puppies using the trays, and it looks like it is working just the way I envisioned it would work!

New Artwork

This collaged painting is mounted on a 3/8" deep artist panel and measures 8" x 8". The colors are not a combination that I typically use, but I love the movement in it! 

P.S. I am hoping for warm weather soon as I have quite the stack of paintings to varnish!

Backgrounds

I have been painting and cutting and tearing, all to create a new series of collage backgrounds. Here are the base layers, and I am still thinking about what comes next.

Meela

Sometimes people just amaze me, and not in a good way. This gorgeous dog is a purebred dachshund, only 2 years old, sweet and absolutely gorgeous. Yet, she is now in rescue. Why? Because "she got herself pregnant", and her family didn't want to deal with it. Personally, I am thrilled that she is now in rescue, because she will be safe and well taken care of, and so will her pups. According to the vet, we are expecting 6 or 7 puppies within a few days.

Kiwi

I recently joined an online group that swaps Artist Trading Cards each month. Each month's theme is based on a color, and each artist is free to use that color any way they want. This month's theme color is "kiwi". Since the kiwi bird is brown, I decided to focus on the green of the kiwi fruit. I used a background of Japanese paper and added splotches of green paint, then scrapings of black paint as a second layer, and then stripes of a slightly darker green as the third layer. Once each of those layers was dry, I collaged black & white paper and cloth elements to the surfaces. I contemplated adding some stitching, but I decided the cards were complete without stitching.

Early Morning

I love to wander around the lake early in the morning. It's so peaceful, and I feel like I am one with nature. My inspiration well is always filled again after one of these jaunts!
