Snow

We are definitely in the midst of winter here in the midwest. We've had several snows now, and the ground will probably stay white until spring. I love photographing the stark, bare trees of winter, and they are even more dramatic with a touch of white snow on them.

Merry Christmas!

We are having a small, quiet Christmas, and it suits us. Enjoying a cup of coffee together in the morning, and then a couple of visits with family. The dogs got a few gifts, but mostly they are happy to have us both home with them, playing non-stop. We have plenty of snow, so the view out the windows is gorgeous. It all gives us a sense of peace and makes us thankful for all the gifts in our lives.

Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

My Little Angel

The reality of rescue is that there are always dogs that we can't save. But when we save one, and they still die, it is especially heartbreaking. Last night one of my favorite fosters became an angel.

I first saw little Alize's photo on a website for a high kill shelter in Kansas City. She had been picked up as a stray and subsequently tested positive for heart worms. Because of that, no one wanted her. She looked so tiny and so lonely. Her photo touched my heart, and I knew I wanted to save her life.

When Alize arrived in rescue, we discovered that she also had a urinary infection and bladder stones that were so huge that they filled her bladder and gave her a funny little gait. But I loved her from the moment I saw her!

She spent over a month with me --- going through her heart worm treatment and then recovering from surgery to remove the bladder stones. Through it all, she was a fighter and she had the sweetest personality. You would never have known the pain she was in. Then she was adopted by Marie, and I knew that she was set for life. She was healthy, and she would have a great forever home.

Yesterday she was diagnosed with pneumonia, and last night she died. I guess her tiny little body just couldn't fight anymore. To say that I am heartbroken is an understatement. I love this little girl like I love my own dogs. RIP sweet little Alize. You were loved, and you will always be in my heart!

Lake Patton

"Maple"
Relief & Mono Printed
5" x 7"

Earlier this year I spent a week in a secluded cabin on Lake Patton. It was very basic --- no internet, no phone, no television --- but it was one of the best weeks I have ever spent on myself. I enjoyed my time with my husband; I kayaked every day enjoying the gifts that nature had to show me; I created art every day. It was a perfect week!

This print is one of many that I created during that week. The variety of trees surrounding the lake was amazing, and I printed leaf prints almost every day, trying to bring those memories home with me. This is one of my favorites!
